The film "Article 370" has been written and spoken about extensively, with some labeling it as a propaganda film. We have recently seen many films that have been embroiled in controversies and Article 370 is no exception. Whether this film is a propaganda film or not, and what makes it special, how the actors have performed - all of these aspects are discussed in this review of the film "Article 370".
A story intertwined with true events and online coaching classes.
The plot of the film is based on true events and revolves around the events leading up to the implementation of Article 370. The director of the film has adopted a new approach to showcase the story of Article 370 by dividing it into six chapters. The first chapter engages the audience right from the start, while from the second chapter onwards, the focus of the director shifts solely to portraying Article 370 accurately.
The film also attempts to accurately depict subjects like demonetization in a way that may make viewers feel that the film is serving a propaganda agenda, which diminishes their interest in the film. The film showcases meetings involving files and discussions with government officials in a manner that helps viewers understand the intricacies, but these scenes are depicted for a prolonged duration, giving the impression of an online coaching class.
For these reasons, watching the film may feel futile for the audience.
Editing greatly influences the impact between screenplay writing. The added spice in the form of a little romance in the sequence of events in screenplay writing does not have any significant impact. For example, the scene depicting an event related to the library to bring an important document is portrayed humorously. Similarly, during the presentation of a bill in the assembly, there is a continuous series of action-packed events in Kashmir, which proves to be an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the film from becoming burdensome.
Identifying Delhi only through India Gate showcases the credentials of the screenwriter but is unable to maintain the excellence of writing throughout the film.
In the film, it is stated at one point that children often get involved in stone throwing either due to greed for money or under the pressure of politicians, and in the very next scene, a politician is shown. It seems that a lot of effort has been put into the editing of the film.
Nowadays, women in Bollywood are getting important roles and positive outcomes as well.
The casting list in the film is very long. In the past decade, the biggest change in Bollywood is that leading roles are being given to women in films. Here, Yami Gautam and Priyamani have appeared in significant roles. Yami Gautam has become a security officer and has taken up the important responsibility of implementing Article 370 in the film, which also affects her personal life. Yami has portrayed this character with utmost dedication. Priyamani has played the role of a woman in an important position in the film. This character appears to be the most challenging in the film, as it requires portraying seriousness on the face while meeting the Home Minister and Prime Minister, a feat which perhaps no one can do better than Priyamani. There are also many crucial scenes between Yami Gautam and Priyamani.
Arun Govil, a big name in Indian television, appears as the Prime Minister. Arun Govil has spent very little time in front of the camera in the film, but within that time, he has done justice to the dignity of the Prime Minister's position with his acting.
Iravati Harshe is also playing an important role in the film's story, and by seeing her, we can once again witness the dominance of women in significant film roles.
Raj Arjun, who appears as a security officer in this star-studded cast of the film, has also left a strong impact with his performance. Raj Arjun possesses the ability to convey a lot through his eyes, just like Manoj Bajpayee and Irrfan Khan.
Politics in Dialogues.
It seems from the dialogues related to Article 370 that the film intends to bring to light the divide between Kashmir and the central government, such as in a dialogue from the film: "Our conversation has already happened with Delhi directly. Now, we will demand whatever conveniences we need. The days of begging from you are over." Similarly, we also come across dialogues like "The political stability of Kashmir is currently the country's biggest national security concern," which seems to highlight the issue of Kashmir as the most important among all other issues in the country.
The film also includes powerful dialogues related to political corridors, such as "Do you remember, Jalal Sahab, how the government was on the brink of formation between our fathers and myself due to the Finance Ministry's matters? Jalal - Forget about the old issues, so much water has flown in the Jhelum since then."
The impactful background score and cinematography.
The background score of Article 370 assists in accelerating the pace of the story. When Yami Gautam returns from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir, the playing background score serves as evidence. The film makes successful use of drone cameras in several scenes. The deployment of VFX in a scene showing crossfire from both sides is done in an exceptional manner. The scene depicting the Pulwama attack is emotionally stirring, and the song "Main Tujhe Fir Milungi" adds a significant impact to it.
